PRP — scalp or face

For thinning hair and dull, tired-looking skin, using platelets from a small sample of your own blood. The platelets are concentrated and placed back into the scalp or the face. Three sessions to start, with first effects usually seen at two to three months.

What changes

Slower than you want. Real if you wait.

Hair grows about a centimetre a month, so a scalp treatment cannot show results faster than hair grows.

  1. 01

    Shedding slows before anything regrows.

  2. 02

Around month three, new growth shows.

  3. 03

On skin, the texture changes first.

  4. 04

    Holding it means coming back.

How it works

Your own platelets, concentrated.

Platelets do more than clot. They carry growth factors — the signals tissue uses to repair itself. A tube of your blood spun in a centrifuge separates into layers, and the plasma layer holding the concentrated platelets is drawn off and injected where the repair is wanted.

Because it is made from you, there is nothing to react against and nothing foreign left behind. The trade is speed: you are asking tissue to do its own work, on its own schedule, which for hair means months rather than weeks.

  1. 01

    The draw

A standard blood sample, the same as any other, taken at the start of the appointment.

  2. 02

    The spin

Ten minutes in a centrifuge separates the plasma and its platelets from the rest.

  3. 03

    The injection

The concentrate goes back into the scalp or skin in a grid of small injections.

What to expect

Three sessions, then judge it.

A single session is not a trial of this treatment. The series is the treatment.

  1. Session 1

    The first

Tender for a day, occasionally a headache after a scalp treatment. Nothing visible.

  2. Month 1 to 2

    Shedding slows

The first sign on a scalp is usually less hair in the drain, not more on the head.

  3. Month 3

    New growth

After the third session, fine new hairs become visible along the parting or hairline.

  4. Month 6 to 12

    Maintenance

A single session holds what the series built. Without it, the gain is gradually lost.

Your visit

One appointment, about an hour.

Most of it is the blood draw and the ten minutes in the centrifuge.

  1. 01

    First 20 minutes

    The evaluation

The physician assesses whether the follicles are still viable — which decides whether this treatment can work at all.

  2. 02

    Before anything is drawn

    The plan and the price

How many sessions, how far apart, and the cost of the series, agreed in writing.

  3. 03

    Same appointment

    Draw, spin, inject

A standard blood sample, ten minutes in the centrifuge, then a grid of small injections.

Preparation and aftercare

Before and after your visit.

  • Drink water

A hydrated vein makes the draw easier.

  • Eat before you come

This starts with a blood sample.

  • Pause anti-inflammatories

They blunt the response, if your doctor agrees.

  • Wash your hair

For a scalp treatment, arrive with it clean and dry.
